Claims of Jubilee moles rock Orange Democratic Movement grassroots elections

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has claimed some of its members seeking party positions in the county's grassroots elections have been sponsored by rival political parties.

Local party officials led by the Interim Secretary Hilton Abiola said the move is aimed at destabilising the elections slated for October 3 to 6. "We are privy to information that people who have been Jubilee sympathisers started campaigning for  the October elections but we will not allow them to contest any of the positions," said Abiola.

He claimed the 'moles' have received funding from the rival Jubilee coalition to create confusion and undermine ODM structure in the region dominated by the The National Alliance party and the United Republican Party.

GENUINE MEMBERS

But Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama, who has declared interest in the county's ODM chairmanship, dismissed the claims; saying some members were worried about him. "I am still a member of ODM and I have been contributing to the party and therefore, I am entitled to contest for any position in the party," he said.

Last year, Arama ran in into trouble with party officials over his support for the Jubilee government.

Abiola urged the youth and women to seek positions in the party, saying new party structures allow more people to take up leadership at county level. He, however, said only genuine and committed members would be allowed to contest for positions.
