David de Gea's camp 'increasingly confident' of transfer deadline move to Real Madrid

Reds have been asking £35m - a world record for a keeper - but it's understood a bid of around £30m before Tuesday night is now likely to be accepted.

David de Gea's camp are increasingly confident of securing the Manchester United goalkeeper’s long-anticipated switch to Real Madrid before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.

De Gea has been exiled from the first team by boss Louis van Gaal until the saga over the Spain star’s future is resolved, one way or the other.

Despite Real’s failure to meet the £35million asking price, it is understood the player’s camp - led by super-agent Jorge Mendes - believe a deal will be struck.

The transfer could even be finalised by Monday, according to sources close to the process.

Although United are publicly holding out for £35m - which would be a world record fee for a goalkeeper - it is understood an offer just shy of £30m is likely to be accepted.

There is a feeling at Old Trafford the De Gea saga has become too much of a distraction and that they may ultimately be better off without him — given the player’s refusal to sign a new deal.

De Gea, United's Player of the Year last season, is out of contract at the end of this campaign, so the Reds stand to lose him for nothing next summer if they do not reach an agreement with Real for his transfer before September 1.

Sergio Romero, who has come into the United side for De Gea while the 24-year-old’s future remains unresolved, endured a shaky start to his Old Trafford career but has grown in confidence.
