Why Nairobi prostitutes are migrating to Narok

 Narok Town

Prostitutes have moved to Narok town in their hundreds as wheat farmers prepare for a bumper harvest this season.

The Nairobian can reveal that most of the sex workers arrived in the county from as early as July to pitch tent in the town and other neighbouring trading centres such as Suswa, Nairegia-Enkare, Ntulele and Ololung’a.

Narok town comes alive as the wheat business boom attracts wheat buyers, farmers, and lorry drivers during the annual July-September harvest season. This is also the season of the Wildebeeste migration happening in Maasai Mara National Game Reserve in the same county. Many of the sex workers are said to have come from as far as Nairobi, Thika, Bomet, Kisii and Nakuru.

Ben Ole Nchoe, a resident of Ntulele trading centre told The Nairobian that: “They (prostitutes) have already arrived. They will leave here as millionaires.”

Others are crooks who spike drinks with mchele in beer joints before dragging victims to lodgings for ransacking, leaving them with nothing.

Narok Wheat Farmers Association representative John Ole Koonyo said that most farmers have learnt and no longer carry wheat money in cash for ‘showing off’ to attract women.

Narok County Commissioner Arthur Osiya said, “Any visitor is welcome to Narok this high season but those with ill intentions such as prostitution, fraudsters, robbers will not be tolerated. They will face the full force of the law.”
