Over 20 clans endorse Mutua as Kamba leader

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua

The Kamba Council of Elders, which comprises 22 clans has endorsed Governor Alfred Mutua as the new community leader.

The council members passed the resolution at Masii Secondary School in Mwala sub-county at a ceremony led by Chairman Boniface Kilonzo.

Appreciating the honour, Dr Mutua vowed to soldier on with the campaign of ensuring the community comes out of poverty.

“I will not relent in my venture to secure and protect the Kamba no matter who says what, because, this is a mission towards rescuing my community that has been languishing in poverty for years without any body taking notice,” said the jubilant Mutua as cheers from the crowd rented the air.

The council officials advised the governor to visit every corner of the three counties and beyond to solicit their support.

Young leaders

“You should from now on go to every part of the region where Kamba people live and introduce yourself to them since we have blessed you to do so,” said the clan council elders.

The elders said time had come for the older generation of leaders to pave way for visionary and energetic young leaders who can take the community to the ‘promised land’.

The elders said they would work hand-in-hand with the governor in his Maendeleo Chap Chap initiative to achieve his dream of eradicating poverty from the community.

Mutua thanked the elders for their positive reception and assured them that they would not regret supporting him since he will explore every avenue to bring goodies to the Kamba people.

During the occasion, he donated Sh200,000 in transport monies and promised to buy them a 14-seater matatu in a month’s time.

Pension benefits

Earlier, the governor had met a group of former councillors in his office led by their chairman Davis Musau, who also affirmed their loyalty and support for his mission of taking over the community leadership.

The former ward representatives promised to a start door-to-door campaign for the governor towards his course.

The governor promised to get them their long overdue pension benefits before end of this week, which amounted to Sh5.5 million.

The governor said what he wanted for the community was development and not just politics.

“Our people need water, education and health and this can only be achieved when leaders venture into serious development business as I am doing and not divisive politics,” he said adding that time has come when all leaders from the region should come together and forge a way forward in reviving the welfare of the people
