Stop media campaigns, Governor Alfred Mutua told

Machakos County Governor Alfred Mutua

A section of politicians have accused Governor Alfred Mutua of engaging in 'public relations' campaigns at the expense of service delivery.

Speaking in separate occasions, Senator Johnstone Muthama, former Assistant Minister Wavinya Ndeti and Matungulu MP, Stephen Mule claimed Governor Mutua was more engrossed in media publicity rather than service delivery.

"Mutua should stop running this county through media campaigns and sparking off public excitements over projects which hardly see the light of the day. He should devote efforts towards offering realistic services, which give value for money to the residents," Muthama said after inspecting water projects launched by the governor in Matungulu sub-county.

Muthama told residents to interrogate the governor's delivery on matters that are critical to their livelihoods like healthcare, water and infrastructure.

"I am not in competition with Mutua as some have said. All we are asking is that residents should not be taken for a ride through theatrics when launching projects that never see the light of day," said Muthama.

And addressing the faithful at Kangundo Catholic church after attending mass, former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti called on residents to be wary of empty promises.

 poor choices

Wavinya said reports of massive graft in the county government should worry the residents a great deal.

"Any single coin diverted elsewhere through corruption is an injustice to the taxpayer. As residents, we must always insist on accountability to the last coin," said the former MP.

Matungulu MP Stephen Mule asked Dr Mutua to 'stop taking residents for fools.'

While addressing his constituents at a burial in Kyaume location, Mule told them to avoid being hoodwinked.

"We will continue to support what is good for you as residents, but again, we won't keep quiet when things go wrong. The county government must remember that we are entitled to services as a matter of right, and not favour," said the MP.

Convener of Machakos County Youth Development Forum, Mitaa Musyoka, who had accompanied Ms Ndeti, urged residents to register as voters in large numbers  and to be ready to elect the right leaders.

"The problems we are facing today are a result of poor choices in political leadership. We can change that by voting wisely," he said.

Dr Mutua through his press secretary Mutinda Mwanzia insisted his administration is committed to delivering 'first class' services to the residents.

"The train has already left the station and the people shall reach the promised land, irrespective of noises being made by some vision-less politicians. We call upon residents of goodwill to support us as we make the dream of Machakos become a reality," he said.
