Limuru, Kenya: Two boys were killed while at least 10 others were injured in a fire incident at the Stephjoy Boys High School in Limuru area, Kiambu County.

The fire affected a dormitory that hosted up to 60 boys. Police say they are yet to know the cause of the fire.

Those injured were admitted at the Limuru Sub county hospital. Kiambu County commander James Mugera said they are investigating the incident. He said a team of detectives were at the school recording statements from management and survivors.

“We are still pursuing the incident. We are yet to know the cause of the fire but two boys succumbed to the fire injuries,” he said.

He added they want to establish if the incident was the work of arsonists. Mugera said the fire started at about 1a.m. on Monday while most students were sleeping.

Stephjoy Boys' is a private school with more than 400 students. Stephjoy Boys' sister school Stephjoy Girls was in the news two weeks ago after some students mysteriously vanished from the school and later returned.

The fire incident is the latest in a series that have happened in the last month alone affecting more than a dozen schools in the country. Preliminary findings have shown the unrests and fire incidents were caused by students who did not want to sit for mock exams. The government has since banned the mock exams and ruled that continuous assessment tests will replace them.
