Catholic clergy sued over polio outrage

The Catholic clergy has been put to task over the upcoming polio immunisation programme, which they strongly oppose.

A petition has been filed at the High Court to bar the men of cloth from issuing statements against the campaign pending hearing and determination of the case.

The case filed by a polio campaign ambassador Clinton Werema through his lawyer Fred Athuok brings a new twist to the push and pull between Catholic Church and the government.

"Polio is a highly infectious disease and such statements amount to a violation of basic human rights," Athuok said.
