Court orders Lake Victoria South Water CEO's arrest

KENYA: A court in Kisumu has ordered Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to arrest Lake Victoria South Water Services Board (LVSWSB) CEO Moses Agumba over graft allegations.

Senior Principal Magistrate Thomas Obutu also ordered Agumba be arraigned before the court on August 26 to take a plea on corruption charges.

This follows complaints filed by resident Edgar Ochieng who has alleged that Sh15.5 million was lost due to LVSWSB'S inflated payroll.

The audit Mr Ochieng' has filed in court, as part of his evidence, shows inflated payments for employees with one worker appearing in the payroll at least five times drawing different salary amounts.

Mr Agumba is also accused of withdrawing Sh379 million from the company's grant special accounts, Sh350 million of which was returned by the board.

"The court orders charges be drawn by EACC against the accused based on the sworn supporting affidavits filed by the applicant," the judge said.
