Man in court over special slot in Parliament for transgender people

NAIROBI, KENYA: A man has moved to the High Court seeking to stop implementation of two third gender rule until transgenders are given a slot in Parliament.

The new case on the two third gender rule will bring a twist on the representation question as he argues that those who do not identify themselves as either male or female ought to have a reserved seat in parliament and that they ought to be considered as a minority group.

Mr Solomon Michira in his court papers argues that:" Indeed there is a group that does identify as either male or female but both and who have not been protected politically and the implementation of the gender rule should take them into account as they occupy a peculiar space in the community of peoples." The man adds in his court papers that the term gender, as contained in the constitution, does not refer to a man or woman only- his stand is that the term is inclusive of hermaphrodites or a third gender...Mr Michira wants a position to be created in the August House for the transgender.
