Technology has taken over originality in romantic gestures

News
Technology has taken over my love life; I am tweeting my feelings and updating my emotions. Expressions of love, hate, peace, sorrow, happiness, have been replaced with emojis, and hash tags. I don’t enjoy my space anymore; I find my pictures with the one I love posted and tagged on the internet by friends after a party or tour.
I want the old loving ways, where we can write letters, send flowers, throw stones and go for days without each other. I want the excitement when we see each other, eyes to spark and souls to unite. I want to talk on the phone for hours without hanging up, I want to write him letters and poems and love quotes and love notes. I want him to mediate on the things I write to him, to feel and relate. To see how my handwriting changes with my moods. My happy mood, my handwriting is good and legible, my sad mood, my handwriting is unclear.  I want to convey my message clearly and use the correct spelling not the short forms of texts, instagram and twitter. I know he would never take me seriously when I said ‘bae’; he would reach for the dictionary to look for the meaning and not find it, leaving him confused and frustrated.

This is no more; I collect stamps from my study, office or home as a hobby nowadays, because letters are now official. When i receive a letter, I believe it is a dismissal or appointment letter or a legal affair, not to forget the bills, medical bills, water bills, electricity bills, they all come through the mail. The anticipation that comes when receiving a letter from your other half or even secret admirers has been lost. The build up to romance, admiration and love eventually has been replaced with a hit button called 'send' making it vulnerable for stalkers and serial psychopaths to penetrate your space and get all your background information.

I am not ignorant to modernity, no? I love tweeting, even with the addiction, I do block friends and friends of friends that I find genuinely weird on Facebook and the text messages send the message home immediately. I love the fact that I get quotations on my subscription lists and have groups on whatsapp that come up with plans to crown all my weekends.  Life is easy this way.
