Kenya national handball team lost their second straight match of the ongoing 11th edition of Women's Youth Africa Nations Championship at the Kasarani Indoor Arena on Saturday.

The home girls lost 43-18 to Egypt in their third encounter of the continental event after forcing a 22-22 draw against  Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in their opening match before losing their second duel 46-15 to Angola.

Having conceded the most goals in the championships, Kenya's head coach Victor Siero now has no option but to defeat DRC in their return leg if they are to finish among the top three teams by the end of the eight-day event.

"We have high chances of beating DRC. I cannot say we will defeat Angola and Egypt because they are good sides. Egypt and Angola have been playing together for a long time compared to us who prepared for only a month," Siero told FeverPitch.

"If we beat DRC, we are good to go for the third position. We are working on the counter-attacks for our remaining matches," added Siero, who also plays for the national team.

During the encounter, Rehema Situma and Winfred Atieno showed a much-improved performance against Egypt, scoring four goals each for the hosts as Jane Mwange managed three. Khalid Ibrahim, Reem Sayed and Malak Ali each scored six goals while Shaima Sabri scored five times.

The north Africans dominated the encounter, pulling a 5-4 lead in the tenth minute. As the match progressed, Egypt continued with attacks that saw Kenya trailing 6-10 in the first quarter with Siero seeking his first technical time-out. By half-time, Kenya was trailing 9-24. In the second half, Kenya only managed nine goals.

Angola so far has kept a clean sheet in the tournament with three wins after they defeated DRC 30-14 on Saturday. Angola play DRC as hosts Kenya take on Egypt in the return leg matches today at the same venue.
