A Mombasa court has ordered detention of a man police claim was captured conducting surveillance on a presidential residence in Nyali after scaling the perimeter fence.

Police claim Abdul Aziz Mohamed, in early 30s, is connected to terrorism. He was arrested on Monday.

The police officer investigating the matter claims Aziz entered into the premises guarded by the General Police Service Unit.

Police Constable Eliud Keino swore an affidavit before Principal Magistrate Viola Yetor seeking to have the suspect detained for five days pending conclusion of investigations.

"We seek to have the suspect in our custody for five days to enable us investigate the real identity of the suspect and his intentions," said Keino.

The Magistrate ordered he be detained at Nyali police station until July 6 when the case will be mentioned.

"Let the suspect be detained at Nyali police for the five days to allow the state to finish investigations into the matter," said Yator.

In his defence Aziz said he was playing a game of Safaricom Crown when police stormed the area and arrested him.

The arrest comes barely three days after police in Nyali arrested Aboud Said and Alwes Amir who were allegedly on a surveillance of African Inland Church in Kongowea.
