Were biggest catch on Kenyan Premier League transfer deadline

Paul Were was the biggest catch as the June transfer window shut on Tuesday at midnight.

The former AmaZulu midfielder joined Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia on a six-month deal.

Were spent one year with the Durban-based Premier Soccer League (PSL) side but had to terminate his stay when AmaZulu went down.

The Kenyan international’s decision to join Gor Mahia is a stop-gap measure as he seeks to build his form for any opportunities that may come in future.

Were’s fate was however not clear yesterday after reports emerged that Gor Mahia applied for his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) late.

“Paul Were will not be registered. They applied for the document late and if they field him it will bring problems,” said a source familiar with the matter.

AFC Leopards made one of the highest signings as they seek to fill a huge gap left in the team following the departure of a good number of players.

Leopards raided arch rivals Gor Mahia taking with them influential defender Israel Emuge who has found playing time difficult at the KPL champions.
