Retaliatory attacks decried

Suspected Tugen raiders struck Kailer village and stole more than 30 goats from the Ilchamus community.

This has been perceived as a retaliatory attack following the killing of a Tugen herdsman, John Ketuu, who was ambushed by two armed bandits suspected to be from the Ilchamus community who shot him and injured his colleague, Tiro Menotano, on the leg.

The two incidents have sparked animosity between the two communities.

County Commissioner Peter Okwanyo has threatened to disarm all Kenya Police Reservists (KPR’s) from the Ilchamus community who are believed to be using firearms given to them for banditry. His sentiments have not gone down well with the Ilchamus community who accuse him of taking sides.

Human rights activist Amos Olempaka challenged Mr Okwanyo to instead mop up all illegal firearms.
