ODM pushes for Anne Waiguru suspension

Opposition leaders have intensified their demands for the suspension of Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru pending investigations into the National Youth Service (NYS) saga.

And the nine Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) MPs also demanded that the State repossesses Weston Hotel that is associated with Deputy President William Ruto.

The MPs wondered why State House moved hastily to defend the embattled CS over corruption and procurement irregularities at NYS, yet senior State officials earlier implicated in graft were made to quit.

The MPs, who were led by ODM National Treasurer Timothy Bosire, also called for a forensic audit on NYS finances, procurement systems as regional and gender composition in the docket.

They said failure by President Uhuru Kenyatta to suspend Waiguru and institute a probe on NYS may portray him as a 'master of cover-ups who has no intention to fight corruption.'

"Until this happens, we shall continue with our crusade against corruption," Bosire added.

Sacred cows

Ugunja's Opiyo Wandayi said State House's defence of Waiguru can only mean that there are sacred cows in the Government. "If there is one thing that will bring this Government down, its corruption. But the most disturbing thing is the cover up," Wandayi added.

However, National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale told off his ODM colleagues, saying they should first ask their party leader Raila Odinga to account for the Kazi kwa Vijana, Triton and maize scandals that rocked the Government during his tenure as Prime Minister.

"Anne Waiguru is not being investigated by EACC; her name was not on the list that was tabled in Parliament," Duale said.

Monday, Duale also sensationally claimed that CORD had written a letter to Obama and Pope Francis to dissuade from coming to Nairobi.

"The visit by Obama is meant to reassure tourists that Kenya is safe, but we are aware that CORD has written a letter asking both Obama and the Pope not to come," he said.

Over the weekend, some MPs from Ruto's URP also joined the Opposition to press for Waiguru's suspension.
