I clean human ‘matumbo’

 Dr Shchukina is a specialist

We all learnt in science classes that digestion starts in the mouth and the by-products somehow have to find an exit. What we may not know however, is that some of the ‘junk’ is never really ‘drained’ out. You may be asking yourself how this could possibly happen.

Well, there’s a belief that undigested meat and other foods cause mucus build-up in the colon, which produces toxins that poison the body. If these do not come out, intestines may rot.

There are two main colon-cleansing methods: One way is by buying products. The idea is to help the colon to expel its contents. The other option is to have a colon irrigation. This isn’t a new procedure. Experts argue it has been around for hundreds of years. Dr Lyudmilla Shchukina does bowel irrigation. She says it is a painless procedure which takes out food particles which according to her, could cause decay in the stomach. The Ukrainian who has been in the country for 17 years, compared the human stomach to matumbo, illustrating just why the procedure was important.

Procedure takes between four to six hours

“Why do we still have to wash animal intestines?” she asked.

Dr Shchukina told City Biz that bowel irrigation washes out food that accumulates in the digestive tract, as well as toxins and allergens in the gut.

“Going to the loo is not enough,” she says,  adding that, “ The current lifestyle has changed for the worst.”

Notes the doctor: “Deep fried foods and all these foods with high levels of cholesterol are everyone’s delicacy these days. This was not the case some years back.”

According to the expert, patients are given a polyethylene glycol solution to drink, sit on the toilet and the procedure continues until the rectal effluent is clear.

The procedure which costs anything between Sh6,000 and Sh15,000 usually takes four to six hours. In her clinic, there is a private room just for that.

After the procedure, the patient is advised on a specific 24-hour fibre rich diet to clean out more toxins from the body.

“Our patients have reported feeling light, relaxed and energetic. The first few steps of the procedure must be performed under the supervision of a doctor,” said Dr Schukina. Colon irrigation is known to manage allergy and constipation.

The late Princess Diana had weekly colon irrigations, which she claimed took ‘all the aggro out of me’ at London’s Hale Clinic for colonic irrigation.

The London Globe of June 1993 noted that, “She (Diana) has her bowels washed out with 12 gallons of water three times a week. Now she’s free from tiredness, anorexia, headaches, allergies, depression, candida. Pincess’ Di bizarre secret to health, a slim figure and glowing beauty is giving her body the Royal Flush!”
