EACC: Kenyan County officials to face graft charges

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is completing investigations that will lead to the arrest and prosecution of corrupt county officials.

Speaking to the Press during a conference at the Kenya School of Government, EACC deputy Chief Executive Officer Michael Mubea said investigations have unearthed massive corruption in the counties.

"We have been monitoring and investigating county officials. We are going to carry out arrests and prosecute officials who have failed to comply with the Leadership and Integrity Act 2012," Mubea said.

He said counties must be willing to put up strategies that will enable the review of the departments to expose loopholes that have been facilitating graft.

Solicitor General Njee Muturi said the Government will ensure county governments conduct services with integrity as required by the law.

"Procurement, recruitment and financial management are the top departments in the counties that are the most corrupt," he said.

He said the government requires that all counties use e-procurement system to get rid of corruption.
