Kisii residents decry upsurge of rogue phone technicians

Kisii town residents have expressed fears following the emergence of conmen masquerading as mobile phone technicians.

The rare but shocking trend has caught many victims unawares, making them lose their phones and tablets in the hands conmen.

One of the victims, Peris Nyaboke narrates how she lost her Alcatel tablet after the technician she had given her tablet to repair went missing.

“I was shocked when I went to check on my tablet only to find that the Fundi had relocated to an unknown place, since then his phone number is unreachable,” narrated Nyaboke.

Nyaboke said that It is hard to identify conmen as they present themselves as qualified, honest and reliable individuals.

Another victim Jack Makau, a student at Kisii University, also recounts how his Huawei C5 mobile phone was secretly sold as he was kept waiting for three months.

“I was told to wait for three months since, according to the fundi, the phone had been taken to Nairobi for its processor to be allegedly replaced only to later realize that the fundi sold my phone to my fellow student,” claimed Makau.

Makau appealed to relevant authorities to cross-examine rogue technicians taking advantage of innocent citizens and unsuspecting residents.

Confirming the incident, Kisii Police Boss Simon Kiragu warned conmen in the area and said that once caught they would be arrested and taken to court.

“It is unethical for any business individual to manipulate customers and I am warning them to stop the trend because once caught the law will take its course,” said Kiragu.

He further advised members of the public to report such cases which will help the Police in nurbing the criminals.
