Lack of lifts deny Governor Ranguma a date with ODM officials in his office

Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma

KISUMU, KENYA: Lack of elevator shattered Orange Democratic Party (ODM) officials' visit to Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma's office.
A section of Ranguma's gubernatorial sponsoring party disciplinary committee officials could not make it to the governor's office located in the ninth floor of Prosperity Building.

The committee had summoned Ranguma, his Deputy Ruth Odinga and the assembly Chief Whip Isaiah Onyango last week, to shed light on the wrangles rocking the assembly.
The closed door session was to take place at the governor's office, but on reaching the office location, the committee members found out that the building had no lifts hence there was no means for one of the members to access the office.
"Ranguma requested us to slot him at 9 am but we could not hold our sessions there because Prosperity House building is not accessible to one of our members," said committee's Chairperson Fred Athuok.
And because of the inaccessibility, the seating was moved to a hotel within the city. The committee waited for Ranguma to appear but he did not make it, instead he went ahead to Muhoroni to launch an ambulance and other projects.
The prosperity building which apart from the governor's office, houses a number of national government offices including Huduma centre, has 18 floors but lacks disability friendly access paths.
Accessibility to the office has been an issue with several organisations questioning the commitment of the county government to serve the public fairly.
