Argentine football player dies after heart attack on field

Second division Argentine football player Cristian Gomez of Atletico Parana died after suffering heart failure while playing a match.

Gomez, 27, collapsed 30 minutes into a game Sunday against Boca Juniors, a league official said.

He was resuscitated briefly but died on his way to the hospital, said Ramon Gomez, the Argentine Football Association's delegate for the game in the northeastern city of Corrientes.

Ten days ago another Argentine player, Emanuel Ortega, died of injuries suffered when he hit his head against a concrete wall on one side of the field.
