Man forgets gun in a Nairobi bar toilet, police looking for him

NAIROBI: Police are looking for a man who left his gun in a toilet at a bar in Nairobi West area, Nairobi.

The mini-ceska pistol was found abandoned on the toilet flusher on Saturday night long after the “owner” had apparently left.

He had not turned up at the bar or police station by Monday to claim it.

Police say the weapon seems to be legally licensed and efforts to trace the owner were ongoing. But another official said the weapon could belong to an illegal gun holder hence the reason he had not turned up to claim it.

“We don’t know the owner but a mini-ceska can be owned by a licensed gun holder or a criminal. They don’t belong to government,” said Langata OCPD Elijah Mwangi.

He added the weapon was discovered by other revelers who had gone there minutes after the suspected holder had left.

Mwangi said they have launched investigations to establish the owner and take action.

“If someone forgot it there, there will be an action to be taken,” he said.

Meanwhile, former Mumias Sugar Managing Director Peter Kebati was shot and seriously wounded in a robbery in his Karen home, Nairobi.

Kebati was shot in the leg and robbed of unknown amount of money, his gun and household goods of unknown value.

A gang of about four had accessed into his house and held him and his family hostage before leaving. They also roughed up his family.

According to police, the gang used his licensed pistol to shoot him in the struggle that happened on Friday night. His right leg was fractured below the knee.

The gang used a lorry to carry away the household goods that they stole from the house. He lives in a gated compound and it is unclear how the gang managed to get there.

Kebati is admitted at the Aga Khan Hospital.

"We suspect these are people who know the family but efforts to get them are ongoing. We do not know if there was any other motive," said an officer probing the incident.

Cases of armed robberies have been on the rise in the city leaving police struggling to contain them.
