Students receive donations

Former Garissa University College students who recently reported to Moi University's Main Campus in Kesses have been given donations to help them as they settle into the new institution.

Child Welfare Society of Kenya (CWSK) presented the university's administration with a start-up kitty to enable the students "settle in and pick up learning in their new environment".

Presenting shoes, blankets, clothes, basins and other basic personal effects, CWSK official Gathoni Ndung'u said they took the decision because most of the students lost their belongings and they wanted to help them settle in fast.

Welcoming the donations, University Dean of Students David Mureithi said in distributing the items, priority will be given to those students who are not from economically stable families.

"The goods will be distributed based on one's need situation with the most needy, as identified by School Heads, being given priority," he said.

The dean said the students have about two weeks before they sit their exams which will see them complete their previous semester learnings which had been affected by the April terror attack.
