Stop bickering, elders tell region’s leaders

Various leaders from four counties in Luo Nyanza have been put on notice by elders over their constant wrangles with governors.

The elders threatened to ensure such MPs and MCAs do not get re-elected in the next General Election saying governors should be given a chance to serve the people without interference.

The more than 200 elders from Migori, Homa Bay, Kisumu and Siaya counties were speaking during the closing ceremony of a three day pilgrimage at Got Ramogi (Ramogi Hills) in Usenge-Bondo, Siaya.

They said they will not tolerate petty politics that undermine devolution.

Leader’s warned

“We want a meeting with the four governors, MPs and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu, to warn the MPs that any of them in constant wrangles with governors will not be re-elected,” elder Akech Chieng’, from Homa Bay, said.

At the same time, a section of Luo elders have asked the region’s political leaders to intervene and put an end to wrangles between two factions of the Luo council of elders.

The elders led by Apostle Paul Benjamin Awuondo said the row being witnessed between the current chairman Willis Otondi and the former chairman Riaga Ogallo is threatening the community’s unity.

The elders asked CORD leader Raila Odinga to deliberate on the matter and help resolve the stalemate by offering clear direction and guidance on how best to solve the leadership issues being witnessed at the council.

“Unless our political leaders intervene to resolve these woes, Raila’s chances of becoming president in 2017 are limited,” he said.
