Hotels disappointed by low bookings

Hotels in Nyeri County registered low bookings on the second day of beatification of Sister Irene ‘Nyaatha’ Stefani with the exception of only a handful, which have been fully booked for the weekend.

Mt Kenya Tourism Circuit Association chairman Charles Karuga said only a few hotels had registered good bookings, with the rest reporting no or few clients.

A spot check by The Standard on Sunday in the local hotels revealed that only Green Hills Hotel had full bookings for its standard rooms.

The Golden Gates Hotel, which is the closest to the event’s venue — the Dedan Kimathi University grounds — confirmed that it registered increased bookings.

However, other hotels within the town such as Central Hotel registered low bookings and manager Simon Mbugua complained their hopes of cashing in on the beatification were dwindling.

“We expected that the clients would be trooping into our hotel because we are in the heart of the town. Unfortunately, there is no single booking so far,” Mr Mbugua said.
