Give us one presidential candidate, Luhya leaders told

Ken Lusaka Bungoma County Governor

New Ford Kenya (NFK) party leader Kenneth Lusaka (pictured) has called on Luhya leaders with presidential ambitions to allow only one be the presidential flag bearer.

Mr Lusaka, also Bungoma governor, said this is the only way they can defeat leaders from other regions.

“I am calling on all Luhya leaders to come together and speak in one voice if we want to clinch the presidential seat.

Kenyans can agree with me that infighting among Luhya leaders is our greatest undoing because each one of us has ambitions of becoming the president,” he said.

The party leader said NFK is ready to dialogue with other leaders and form partnerships that will steer the community towards clinching the presidential seat.

“It is good to be in Government and as a party we are ready to dialogue with serious parties that are sure of forming the next Government. Nobody is willing to remain in the cold,” he said.

NO DIVISION

Lusaka called on Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetang’ula and Amani National Congress party leader Musalia Mudavadi to negotiate among themselves and give the community one presidential candidate.

He said this will stop the division of votes that gives presidential candidates from other regions an easy ride in clinching the seat.

“Let us also register more voters and have enough resources to enable us campaign then we can rest assured that as the second largest tribe, we can win the presidential seat. However, if we remain divided, we might as well forget it and support other leaders,” he said.

Lusaka also cautioned Western leaders against making their strategies public.

He said doing so would give their enemies an edge, which they would then capitalise on to “beat us hands down”.

“Let us learn to be secretive and play our ball under the water so that before they know it, we are far ahead of them. Politics is a game and we should plan and lay proper strategies to win,” he said.
