Kisumu’s serial killer killed by inmates after two attempts of suicide

KENYA: A serial killer, Harrison Okumu has died after a fight with cellmates at Kisumu’s Kodiaga Maximum Prison.

Okumu who was facing charges of killing 5 people and burying them in his compound was killed by fellow capital offence inmates after a disagreement on Wednesday evening.

According to the prison’s administration, five other inmates were injured in the scuffle.

In December 2014 Okumu also known as Boy attempted to commit suicide after he set himself ablaze inside the prison cell. The prison’s authorities then said Okumu had used a mattress and match box to set himself on fire.

He was rescued by other inmates and officers on duty who rushed him to the hospital where he is admitted with severe burns.

At the time, the prison also revealed another incident where he was said to have climbed the facility’s perimeter wall with the intention of committing suicide.

The suspect was arrested in August 2013 after Miguye village residents in Kisumu County unearthed human remains buried in a shallow grave next to his house.

He was arrested in Mombasa where he had boarded a Garissa bound bus after weeks of police tracking.
