Police inspector killed in a robbery in Nairobi

Nairobi, Kenya - A senior Administration Police officer was Monday morning shot dead in a robbery incident along Kangundo Road, Nairobi.

Inspector Zadock Kamala’s body was found in a pool of blood next to residential apartments, minutes after he had been shot by unknown assailants.

The attackers are believed to have robbed him off unknown amount of money and a laptop that he had. Police suspect the attackers ambushed him at about 6 am as he headed for his place of work in Dagoretti, prompting a struggle that left him with a bullet wound in the neck.

Buruburu OCPD Charles Kerich said Kamala tried to run towards an AP camp that he has been staying after the shooting but tripped and fell into a trench where his body was found.

“We suspect he was attacked by gunmen who we are yet to know as he headed for work and robbed off a laptop and unknown amount of money. Efforts to trace the attackers are ongoing for now,” said Kerich.

Kamala stayed at the Umoja AP camp and was to take a matatu to town and connect to Dagoretti. Police said the same gang had also attacked two other pedestrians and robbed them off their valuables.

Other senior officers arrived at the scene minutes later and carried away the body to the mortuary.
