Nairobi, Kenya: Former long serving Director of Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Noah Arap Too is dead.

Too died at the Nairobi Hospital where he had been admitted to for a month over kidney related complications, his family said.

His son Paul said Too, 68,  died at about 2am Wednesday.

“He had been in hospital for almost a month now until about 2am when he left us. We are planning for his burial now,” said Paul on phone.

Too was the longest serving CID boss since Kenya attained independence in 1963. He served for 15 years under Kanu regime as the director of CID until 1999.

Too also served as Ainamoi MP for one term, between 2002 and 2007.

Since then, he kept a low profile managing his business until on Wednesday morning when his death was announced.

Director of Criminal Investigations Ndegwa Muhoro mourned the death describing Too as a brilliant, innovative and dedicated officer, who unified the unit.

“He was instrumental in many ways in the years he served as a CID boss. We mourn his death,” said Muhoro.

His predecessor was Mr Ignatius Nderi, who also served for one decade.

Too was succeeded by Francis Sang, who served until 2003, when Joseph Kamau took over until 2006 when Karanja Gatiba succeeded him.

Gatiba died in 2010 and Muhoro took over. The name of the department also changed to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI).
