Female MPs seek President Uhuru, Raila Odinga intervention on gender rule stalemate

NAIROBI, KENYA: Women MPs now vow to turn to Uhuru, Ruto and Raila to rally MPs to reject Bill that indefinitely postpones the implementation of the two-thirds gender rule. 13 women MPs addressing  a news conference at Parliament buildings insisted that the Bill by the chairman of the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee Samuel Chepkonga was illegal.

Ms Priscilla Nyokabi, Chepkonga's deputy at the committee and Fatuma Ibrahim who also sits in the committee say Chepkonga "sneaked the Bill" using his position.

"That Bill has never been an option in the committee," said Nyokabi.

They say they will not back the Bill and if Chepkonga doesn't drop it, then they will have to use their influence to rally women in the country and their male colleagues to have the Bill rejected.
