'Let's talk to avert labour disputes' CS Omamo urges

NAIROBI: The Government has assured workers of its commitment to engage in consultative meetings while solving their disputes.

Acting Labour Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo said the Government is very committed to social dialogue that will in the end create an enabling environment for all sectors of the economy.

“As a Government we affirm our commitment to tripartism and inclusive social dialogue for the benefit of all workers and employers in the labour market,” said Omamo in a statement read by Labour Commissioner Sammy Nyambari. “We encourage all workers, employers and Government to sit and dialogue and agree on the way forward in terms of improving productivity,” she added.

Nyambari, who spoke Sunday during the Labour Day prayers at St Stephens Church along Jogoo Road, said while the court is part of the labour relations system, as the last resort, it was important to first exhaust the avenues for reconciliation. There ministry is currently working on a wages and remuneration policy.
