KTDA finally conducts elections in Konoin

Elections for directors at Mogogosiek Tea Factory in Konoin constituency have finally been held after delays occasioned by an aspirant challenging the procedure of picking contestants in court. Tea Farmers at Cheptalal Zone in Konoin went to polls to elect their director after three months of delay.

Richard Lang'at had moved to court in January to block the elections, saying the procedure of picking contestants for the Zone was biased after he was locked out.

Attempts by Kenya Tea Development Agency to conduct the election in January saw farmers become rowdy and stone vehicles ferrying ballot papers and locked officials from accessing polling centres. Police were forced to use tear gas to disperse the rowdy farmers.

Langat did not participate in the election and instead chose to back one of the candidates. Samson Menjo arap Mosonik was elected during Tuesday's election beating the incumbent Geoffrey Langat.

Mosonik polled 28,361 votes against Langat's 18,784 to represent Cheptalal Zone of the factory.

KTDA returning officer at the Zone Gitobu Murithi said the election was free and fair.
