Beware, enemies of devolution will be 'crushed'

Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar was so unimpressed with the Salaries and Remuneration Commission's handling of county staff welfare that he made a declaration right before its chairperson, Sarah Serem.

"I am speaking so passionately and so emotionally because we in Mombasa are so keen to have devolution work. And those who through whatever machinations make county jobs unattractive are threatening us."

He dismissed as "simplistic, basic and uninspiring" the formula the salaries team was using to gauge county staff.

"We will crush you!" he signed off his tirade against those he described as "enemies of devolution."

What will the grandchildren of our grandchildren think of the current crop of Kenyan leaders while reviewing their nation's history? This was the question posed.

"They will probably think the problem was the size of our heads. They will seek permission and exhume some of us and they will be shocked to realise our heads are normal," governance expert Kareithi Murimi said.
