CORD to launch bill on referendum

The much-publicised Opposition referendum campaign will eventually be launched today after it was postponed twice in the last three months.

The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) will unveil the Okoa Kenya Draft Referendum Bill, which proposes amendments to the Constitution, at the Bomas of Kenya.

The exercise which was originally scheduled for February was cancelled in solidarity with the shutdown of the three main TV stations following a standoff between the Government and Media Owners Association.

Once more, CORD called off the event a fortnight ago to join Kenyans in mourning 148 victims of the Garissa University terror attack of April 2.

But the Okoa Kenya Movement (OKM) sent a statement yesterday, saying the event will proceed and that invites had been sent to various groups including its rival Jubilee.

"The Committee of Experts of OKM wishes to invite Kenyans to the launch of a proposed bill to amend the Constitution so as to achieve social economic and political changes," OKM Committee of Experts Chair Paul Mwangi said.
