Nairobi accountant charged with stealing Sh3.1 million from Office of the President

KENYA: An accountant accused of forging payroll documents in the Office of the President has been charged in a Nairobi court.

John Marios Muchiri denied the charge before Milimani Resident Magistrate Miriam Kagure Tuesday.

He faces two counts of theft and forgery. He allegedly committed the offence on diverse dates between December 2009 and August 2011 at Harambee House in Nairobi.

The court heard that the accused forged payroll by-products of staff in the office of the president, by falsely pretending that the said forged by-products were genuine credit recovery of Sh3.1 million to Molyn Credit Ltd Company.

It is said that the above company had offered loans to the said staff in the office of the president, a fact he knew to be false.

He was also accused of stealing Sh3,157,676, from the Government, which came into his possession by virtue of his employment.

He was released on a Sh900,000 cash bail or a Sh1.8 million bond plus one surety of similar amount. The case will be mentioned on May 4.
