Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia face perhaps their biggest test of the season when they host Sofapaka at City Stadium today.

This season, Gor Mahia have swept aside all opposition save for arch-rivals AFC Leopards who last Sunday exposed their vulnerability as they struggled in one half of the fixture which ended in a draw.

Hardened Sofapaka will provide a tough challenge to the KPL champions who thrashed Nairobi City Stars 3-0 in a midweek fixture to consolidate their stay at the top of the log with 16 points.

A meeting between the two has always produced fireworks and tomorrow’s fixture will be no different.

On both sides of the pitch, there is plenty of talent which can turn the game on its head.

On Gor Mahia side, Ali Abondo, who has so far scored six times will once again be looked upon to score.

He is one man the Sofapaka backline must keep an eye on or suffer the consequences.

Abondo combines well with Michael Olunga and Khalid Aucho in midfield and will be the biggest threat at the club this season.

Picking maximum points will be a big motivation for Gor Mahia as they seek a third successive title.

Sofapaka have not been consistent this season, but can always rise to the occasion when the circumstances demand, and playing Gor Mahia is one such situation.

The 2009 KPL champions lost to Gor Mahia in the DSTV Super Cup and will therefore be hoping to revenge.

Former Gor Mahia midfielder Kevin Omondi will have an opportunity to play against his old club and remains one of the options for coach Sam Timbe alonside Enock Agwanda.
