Handball: Kiffen lose second leg play off against Esbo IF

Kenyan international handball player Cajitan Ywaya's Denmark second division side Kiffen lost their second leg play off encounter 27-21 against Esbo IF on Thursday evening.

Speaking to Feverpitch after the match,Ywaya said over confidence contributed to the club's poor performance but expressed confidence to win the third and final leg as the club seek a top flight league next season.

" We inexplicably lost game two at home by six goals. We were too confident with ourselves and had to pay for this. We started strongly in the first ten minutes of the match, leading 4-0 but hell broke loose as we conceded goal after goal," said Ywaya who is enjoying his first season in the club.

He added: " Our shots were inaccurate mostly and our frustrations led to uncalled for two minute suspensions. At some point we only had three back court players because the other three were suspended,"

Kiffen won the first leg encounter with seven scores away  and had an upper hand to kill the match into the second leg to earn the top league slot season.

Kiffen have now a big challenge as they prepare for their final encounter  away against division one side on 26th of this Month.

As it stands after  the two legs, the clubs have a tie and the winner of the third leg will definitely have a chance to play in the top division.

Handball in the country is slowly growing producing only two professional players.

The national league is not so competitive especially the women's  clubs where competition for the domestic honours is seen between National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) and regional champions Nairobi Water Queens.

This has been contributed by lack of sponsors in the league with institutional and company clubs comfortably able to cater for their expenses compared to other clubs who depend on well wishers' donations to honour their league matches.
