UBA Kenya enters mobile banking services market

Kenya: United Bank for Africa (Kenya) has positioned itself for a share of the increasing number of Kenyans who are using their mobile hand-sets to conduct business by introducing its own mobile banking service.

The UBA Mobile Banking which was piloted last month with a few of the bank's customers and staff members became active last week.

According to UBA Kenya's Managing Director, Isaac Mwige, the service will allow its customers to get served "as though they were visiting the bank." "The service also allows you to send money outside the country."

He said the service was introduced for convenience as over 65 per cent of Kenyans use their mobile phones to conduct business. "This makes work easier and allows us, UBA Kenya, to reach more and more Kenyans," said Mr Mwige.
