Harry Kane hails ''best moment of his career'' as he scores 78 seconds into England debut

Harry Kane made a dream debut for England last night – scoring with his second touch.

Tottenham striker Kane had only been on the pitch for 79 seconds when he headed the ball in at Wembley to continue his remarkable season.

Kane, who has bagged 29 goals for Spurs this season, was given a rapturous welcome by England fans when he came on for skipper Wayne Rooney with 19 minutes left.

And the 21-year-old sent the sell-out crowd into delirium when he converted from Raheem Sterling’s cross as Roy Hodgson’s side ran amok against the 94th-ranked country in the world.

“It’s not a bad start,” Kane said. “I dreamed of this and it’s just a bit of a blur at the moment. I’m delighted for the lads.

“It’s the best moment of my career. To represent my country at senior level is the top and hopefully I can continue to keep doing it and hopefully this goal is the first of many.”

The comfortable win made it five victories out of five for Hodgson’s side in their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign, further cementing their place at the top of Group E.

England skipper Wayne Rooney opened the scoring in the sixth minute, reacting quickest to nod the ball into the net after Danny Welbeck’s initial shot was saved.

Welbeck then made it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time, when his glancing header was deflected in off Lithuania defender Tadas Kijanskas.

Rooney then turned provider for Sterling in the 58th minute, the Liverpool forward converting from close-range for his first England goal.

The stage was set for Kane to make his remarkable impact and after scoring the young sensation could not contain his joy, sliding on his knees to celebrate his first goal at full international level.

Kane was made to wait for his debut, however, because there was no break in play. He pulled on his shirt in the 64th minute, but didn’t make it on to the pitch until seven minutes later, before finding the net moments later.

Rooney edged closer to Sir Bobby Charlton’s long-standing England record of 49 goals with his 47th, the Manchester United striker now just one behind Gary Lineker.
