Kenyatta National Hospital: Cancer treatment on-going

The radiotherapy machine that broke down recently has been repaired and will begin operations once it has been calibrated, Kenyatta National Hospital Chief Executive Officer Lily Koros has said.

However, the hospital will continued to provide brachytherapy, chemotherapy, nuclear medicine, cancer diagnosis and surgery among a host of other cancer treatments.

Addressing the press at the facility, Koros said the radiotherapy machine had been damaged during a power outage. However, the other cancer treatments had not been suspended.

Meeting costs

Koros said the Government, through the Ministry of Health, would support the hospital and patients to meet cost of treatment at negotiated rates at Aga Khan University Hospital, MP Shah and Nairobi hospitals.

The Government, she noted, had  procured a Linear Accelerator machine at a cost of Sh350 million to improve cancer treatment at KNH as part of its commitment to improve healthcare services countrywide.
