No sign of celebration at Maranda after KCSE results release

SIAYA: Classes went on uninterrupted at Maranda High School in Siaya County after the release of the 2014 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.

During a spot check by The Standard, the students remained in class as teachers waited for the results.

In the results were released Tuesday by the Education Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi, Maranda managed to get 120 As, A- (145), B+ (102), B (65), B- (32), C+ (7), C (1) and C- (1).

The deputy principal Bob Oyugi, who spoke to The Standard in his office, had expressed optimism the school would record improved performance this year.

The institution's director of studies Steve Adongo, said the school registered the highest number of candidates in the 2014 KCSE examination. He said they had been confident of good performance because the students did well in the mock examinations.

“We had a total of 480 students which was the highest in the school history,” said Adongo.

According to the Siaya Director of Education Nereah Olick, the county has registered improved performance this year.

She said schools like Maranda, Barding, Rang’ala Girls, Nyamira Girls and Sawagongo in Siaya County have excelled. “I have not received any malpractice incident in Siaya County so far making it the best in the country,” said Olick.

Barding boys High school celebrated a sterling performance after getting a mean score of 10.39 marks. Eighteen-year-old Maxwell Omollo became the best boy in the school after scoring A plain of 83 points. Speaking to The Standard on phone the school principal Victor Makanda said they were overjoyed to have exceeded their target mean score of 10.2 marks.

"We have the highest university entries this year," said Makanda.
