Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo dares John Mbadi team to ‘discipline’ her

Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo has said she will not be cowed by plans by the ODM leadership to discipline members alleged to be ‘moles’.

Speaking to The Standard on phone, Millie  criticised plans by the party National Chairman John Mbadi to initiate disciplinary measures against legislators allied to the party, who did not campaign for the party’s candidate in the Homa Bay senatorial by-election.

Earlier, ODM leader Raila Odinga supported Mbadi‘s plans to rein in rebels in the party. Raila was speaking during the burial of former Homa Bay ODM Vice ChairMonica Amolo at Thuon Gweno village in Ndhiwa Constituency.

However, Millie accused Mbadi of plot to drive a wedge between the ODM party leaders and the legislators who have been accused of not toeing the party line.

“I want to tell you that those who are talking about us are hecklers because I have not committed any offence. I cannot apologise because I do not know the reason for the apology.  If anything, they are the ones who should apologise for the unfounded allegations,” Millie said.

She said she would not be intimidated by a clique of legislators who she claimed do not have the best interest of Raila and the party at heart.

“Some of these MPs came and found us in ODM  and there is nobody amongst them who has stood firm to defend Raila more than myself. I am warning them against traversing Homa Bay County to taint people’s names before crowds,” she added.

“Some of the people calling us moles are the biggest moles because we know their relations with the Jubilee Government,” she said.

Odhiambo dared Mbadi to go ahead with the plan to discipline her and and her other colleagues.

COUNTER SUE

“Let Mbadi go to court and sue me and I will counter sue him because they want to penalise me for what I don’t understand.  Let them understand the I cannot be given a red card by my fellow players,” Millie said.

Rangwe MP George Oner and his Ndhiwa counterpart Agostino Neto,  who have also been accused of disloyalty, declined to comment on the matter.

“I cannot comment on the question because everybody knows what I stand for,” Oner said.

Last year, an attempt by  ODM to replace de-whipped MPs from committees in the National Assembly has flopped.

The motion by Majority Leader Aden Duale, presented by Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) Minority Whip Thomas Mwadegu, was  defeated after Jubilee legislators termed the move ‘parliamentary dictatorship’ and political intolerance.

The de-whipped MPs included  Ken Obura (Kisumu Central), Samuel Arama (Nakuru Town West), Dalmas Otieno (Rongo) and Zainab Chidzuga (Kwale County MP).
