Taita school closed indefinitely due to water shortage

Ngoloki Secondary School has been shut down as more than 100 students were sent home indefinitely following persistent water shortages.

"The school was shut down due to an unrelenting water shortage," confirmed Taita Sub County Education Officer Samuel Nyantika.

Speaking to The Standard Sunday, Mr Nyantika said school authorities have been complaining of frequent water obstruction by members of the public but in vain.

"We have never had reliable water supply since schools were opened. The school has been closed due to fear of an outbreak of water borne diseases," said a teacher.

Governor John Mruttu said, "I have sent senior officials to assess the matter and prepare a report. We are doing everything possible to reopen the school."
