Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: President Uhuru Kenyatta Friday said the Ebola crisis in parts of Africa exposed serious weaknesses of the health institutions in the continent.

As a result, said the Head of State, there is need for African countries to mobilize their limited resources and invest more in the health sector.

The President said, due to limited resources, austerity measures over the years had not helped develop the desired health infrastructure.

The President was making his contributions on the Ebola crisis during the ongoing 24th Ordinary Session of the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

President Kenyatta described the Ebola crisis as a tragedy in terms of loss of human life and disruptions of the economies of not only the affected countries but the entire world.

Some countries not directly affected by Ebola suffered huge losses when International Flights were cancelled and many tourists cancelled their bookings.

President Kenyatta agreed with earlier proposals that developed countries and donors should write-off debts of the affected countries to give them a chance to concentrate on efforts to rebuild the disrupted economies.

He said on its part, Kenya had contributed dollars one million towards the Ebola initiative besides sending 170 out of the 319 medical personnel promised by the country.
