Invest in health facilities in Kenya, CS Amina urges Indian investors

Cabinet Secretary Amb. Amina Mohamed has urged Indian investors to invest in the health sector in Kenya.

Speaking in Addis Ababa on the sidelines of the on-going 24th Ordinary Session of African, the CS said the establishment of specialized medical facilities would enable more Kenyans to access India's medical expertise.

"There is a large and growing number of Kenyans who seek specialized medical treatment in India. Establishing medical facilities in the country will make specialized treatment more affordable and widely accessible," said the CS.

Amb. Amina Mohamed Union was speaking during bilateral talks with India's vice-minister of External Affairs, Mr.  Navtej Sarna.

Noting that there are more Kenyans who require but cannot afford specialized treatment in India, the CS underlined the need for India and Kenya to explore various possibilities of partnerships in health and especially in the treatment of cancer.

Speaking during the meeting Mr.  Navtej Sarna said India is keen to partner with Kenya in health and other sectors adding the planned high level visit to India by Kenya's top leadership will provide an ideal opportunity to explore available opportunities.

During the meeting the two countries also decried the delay in the reform of the United Nations Security Council and called for closer engagement between the African Union Committee of 10 on UN reforms and the G4 that comprises India, China, Germany and Brazil.

"Closer cooperation between the C10 and G4 will help inject additional impetus on the UN reform agenda," said Mr. Sarna.

In a separate engagement, Amb. Amina Mohamed held talks with First Vice-Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Serbia, Mr. Ivica Dacic.

The two discussed the Serbia - Kosovo dispute following Kosovo's unilateral declaration of independence and expressed support for peaceful settlement of the dispute.

"We support the European Union-mediated negotiations that are going on in Brussles," said Amb. Amina Mohamed.

The two countries also agree to regularize consultations with a view to elevating relations especially with respect to trade and investments.
