CID summons Knut boss Wilson Sossion over North Eastern teachers stand-off

Kenya: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has summoned KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion after North Eastern teachers failed to return to work over claims of insecurity, discrimination and harassment.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has warned the teachers that they will be fired if they do not return to work.

However, the teachers have vowed to defy the return-to-work order by TSC and dared the Government to sack them, insisting they could not risk their lives for teaching posts.

Sossion accused North Eastern leaders of turning their backs against the teachers.

“They have engaged in media war yet the teachers, who have served diligently in tyheir regions, are raising pertinent issues”, argued Sossion.

He said no teacher shall return to the disputed regions until their issues are addressed.

“We shall stand by all the teachers and I can assure you that none will be sacked because they are raising genuine cases”, he assured.

The teachers fled the region after terror attacks by Al shabaab militants along border with Somalia.

Most of those killed last year in Mandera bus attack were teachers, who were travelling for Christmas holiday after schools were closed.
