Hope FM’s frequency infiltrated, switched off for hours by unknown people Tuesday night

Nairobi, Kenya: Experts have been called to investigate an incident in which frequency for popular religious radio station, Hope FM, was infiltrated and switched off Tuesday night.

The frequency was infiltrated by unknown people for hours before Islamic prayers could be heard playing.

Listeners said the radio station came back on air Wednesday morning, several hours after it had been hijacked and switched off.

The radio station , which is run by Nairobi Pentecostal Church, went off shortly after 11 pm. No one has claimed responsibility for the incident.

This incident sparked uproar on social media with many calling for thorough investigations.

Officials from Communication Authority of Kenya, Information Communication Technology Authority (ICTA) and CID were Wednesday morning called in to establish the infiltrators.

“We believe it was hijacked by people who wanted to send a message because they played their content,” said an official, who asked not to be named.

We could not get a comment from the managers of the station.

Last week, a hacker infiltrated the website of the Star Newspaper and posted terror related material.
