NCIC summons Boni Khalwale over 'hate speech'

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has accused the National Cohesion and Integration Commission of serving partisan interests.

This is after the NCIC summoned him over allegations of hate remarks contained in his speech during the burial of CORD leader Raila Odinga’s son, Fidel, a fortnight ago.

The senator has described the summons as intimidation and an affront to free speech vowing not to be silenced.

“I have been summoned for questioning over my speech regarding Jubilee’s tribal appointments. This with regard to the speech I made during Fidel Odinga’s burial. Using NCIC as a private Jubilee wing is total mediocrity,” Khalwale said in a series of tweets.

The outspoken senator said he might consider honouring the summons: “If and only if @NCIC_Kenya explains to me in detail why I should not be critical of the Jubilee government, I might consider honouring the summon.”

The leader insisted that what he termed as “baseless summons” would not stop his quest to serve his country and he would not be stopped from speaking.

A defiant Khalwale said he stood by his speech and threatened to release details of the Jubilee administration’s tribal appointments.

“I am a servant to (sic) Kenyans and the truth is that tribal appointments by @ukenyatta are killing this nation,” he added on another tweet.

In his remarks, Khalwale told mourners that President Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto were rewarding their tribesmen with plum Government jobs while those from other communities were being given menial jobs.
