Youth leaders warn Jubilee Alliance Party of rebellion

Youth leaders allied to parties comprising the Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP) have warned the new party's leadership against imposing leaders in the region, saying they risk facing rebellion in Nyeri.

Led by Kamau Gatwechi, a United Republican Party (URP) official said leaders in Nyeri had started positioning themselves in various positions even without consulting their counterparts in other parties.

They took issue with the rebranding of The National Alliance (TNA) Nyeri branch office in JAP colours, saying it was a calculated move aimed at grabbing the party from bona fide members and other affiliate parties.

Different parties

"We want them to know that Nyeri people act. They can realise this from the way people here voted in the last General Election, since we have leaders from different parties," said Mr Gatwechi. "We want Nyeri included in JAP's top leadership. We are ready to join the new ship on condition they do not take us for granted."

Gatwechi was accompanied by Ngunjiri Wambugu, a Kanu member and political analyst, Amos Muchiri and Julia Mukami (TNA youth leaders), and Ann Kagwe (URP co-ordinator in the area).
