President Uhuru Kenyatta has directed Makueni leaders to resolve their political differences immediately and threatened to "crack the whip" to demonstrate his displeasure with the stalemate between the governor and MCAs.

The President told Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana and MCAs that the endless wrangles among elected leaders had derailed development in the region and must stop immediately.

Uhuru spoke during a rally at Mtito Andei that was attended by Ukambani leaders among them Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu, Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior and MPs Dan Maanzo, Kisoi Munyao, Count Women Representative Rose Museo and several members of the County Assembly.

Speaking after he inspected the Standard Gauge Railway project, the Head of State wondered why the governor and MCAs were fighting instead of working together for the benefit of the people who elected them.

"It is wrong for the elected leaders to continue fighting while the electorate are still suffering from abject poverty, landlessness and high rate of unemployment," he said.

"For the past one year Makueni leaders have been fighting each other at the expense of development. They should know that the electorate did not elect them to fight but to deliver goods and services to them," said President Uhuru.

He told the leaders that the more they continue fighting the less development they achieve in the region.

You are earning huge salaries while the electorates are still suffering. You either resolve your political deference's or else I will crack the whip if you do not agree to work together, "the president warned the leaders.

"Put your political differences aside for the sake of service delivery. The residents are suffering and need urgent service delivery," he told the leaders.
