Mt Kenya hotels set to reap big this season

Hotels in Mt Kenya region are reaping big from the festive season with the occupancy estimated to be above 90 per cent.

A large per cent of the traffic is said to be from local visitors, with the numbers higher than previous years.

Mountain Lodge, Naro Moru River Lodge and Nokras Hotels are just some of the many hotels in the area, which have benefited from the windfall, as visitors try avoid the Coastal region over rising insecurity and terrorism threats.

"We had all the 144 bed space available in our lodge filled up by the end of November. Only 20 per cent of that number is our repeat clients," said Naro Moru River Lodge General Manager Edward Wangechi.

"This may mean people who traditionally go to the coast are looking to other regions for their holiday."
